A Beginning Born from Adversity
Medha’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2001 — not out of ambition, but out of necessity.
A global economic downturn had shaken her young family’s financial stability. With a child under ten and a home to manage, she faced a daunting question: How do we rebuild?
A doctor’s advice to become financially independent sparked a thought. The answer came from within — her love for cooking.
Courage in a Time of Uncertainty
In an era when home-based catering had little social acceptance, Medha chose courage over hesitation.
With no social media, no marketing network, and no capital to speak of, she began humbly. Her first order — a simple vegetable pulao on August 9, 2001 — was cooked in a home pressure cooker and delivered by her young son on a bicycle. That humble pulao marked the birth of Medha’s Kitchen.
From accepting even the smallest orders — two rotis or a single sabzi — she built her reputation dish by dish. Taste, quality, and punctuality became her signature.
Perseverance Through Challenges
The journey was far from easy. Social prejudice, unsolicited pity, and hurtful remarks tested her resolve. But with the unwavering support of her husband and son, she kept going. Her kitchen grew from three pots to a fully equipped operation.
A turning point arrived when she installed a coffee machine with snacks at a hospital — a doctor’s suggestion that became a game-changer. Orders grew from single lunch box to food requirements for any functions, celebrations, festivals etc.
A Legacy Built with Heart
Today, after years of instability and grit, Medha takes pride in seeing her son flourish as a senior professional in a multinational company and her husband thriving in his own successful business.
Medha’s Kitchen is now a trusted name globally for her Diwali Packages and well known in Thane for pure vegetarian, homemade food — customized to each person’s taste and budget. Whether it’s for one person or 500, she cooks every dish herself.
She employs several assistants — many of them women in need — firmly believing that women must empower one another. The two helpers who joined her in the early days remain with her even today, a testament to her loyalty and fairness.
